Finding out you’re pregnant can bring up a lot of emotions. If your partner has already made it clear that they want you to have an abortion, you may find it difficult to separate their opinions from what you’re thinking and feeling.

It’s okay if you haven’t made up your mind yet. Before making any pregnancy decision, give yourself time to gather information and consider what you want.

Bloom Pregnancy Help Center is here to help. Only you can make a decision; we’re here to make sure all your questions are answered. Schedule an appointment today.

Separate Their Feelings From Your Own

Feeling pressured by your significant other often creates a false sense of urgency.

While they may have concerns about finances, school, work, or the future, you don’t have to make a decision simply because they’re expecting an immediate answer. Taking time to learn about your pregnancy and options will help you reflect on what’s best for your circumstances and future.

Ask yourself a few questions:

  • What do I want?
  • What concerns am I still trying to sort out?
  • Have I learned about all of my options?
  • Am I making this decision because I believe it’s the best one, or because someone else expects me to?

Giving yourself some time to answer those questions can help you better understand your own feelings about the situation.

Recognize the Difference Between Support and Pressure

A supportive partner may ask questions, share concerns, or express emotions while still respecting your ability to make your own decision.

Pressure, however, will feel different. Repeated threats, manipulation, guilt, intimidation, or attempts to control your decision are not healthy responses.

If you ever feel physically unsafe or fear your partner’s behavior could become violent, seek help immediately. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is available 24 hours a day at 800-799-7233.

Learn More Before Deciding

If your partner keeps bringing up abortion, it’s important to know that this option comes with risks and side effects. Before making any decision, it’s important to gather information about your pregnancy and health.

An ultrasound can provide information about how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is located in the uterus, and whether the pregnancy is progressing. You need this information to determine which options may be available to you. Additionally, learning about parenting and adoption can also help you make a fully informed decision.

We provide ultrasounds following a positive pregnancy test at our center. Our caring team will also discuss all your options with you and ensure all your questions are addressed.
